Down the Stairs

maxresdefault

The darkness at the bottom of the stairs no longer bothers me.

Perhaps we as adults know scarier monsters than the twelve year old suburbian imagination can imagine.

The suspended howls at the back of your mind, making you aware of cruelties, tragedies, and pain suffered in the world that your boogey man would fear to call his own.

We know horror stories are real,

but they’re not happening in your quiet family suburban home.

And when they are,

You’re too busy to imagine it.
